Born in the early 50’s, Rick
has always had and adventuresome spirit for the outdoors and history. It began with his father and grandfather
taking him wandering through the hills of Pennsylvania discovering and learning about ghost towns and oil wells, searching for
fishing holes,
and chasing bears. Rick always enjoyed stories about pioneer
challenges and adventures. At a young
age he began building forts, climbing trees, and building tree
houses. He enjoyed tracking through swamps searching
for buried treasure, mysterious places, and gold. As he grew up,
he traveled throughout the
country, and he continues to be overwhelmed by what he has learned
about the
people who helped to create our history.
Realizing that many of these stories will never be told, inspired him
to
create the radio program, “The Other Side of Life,” as a
forum for sharing
those stories. Since the history makers
of the Umpqua and Smith rivers, Douglas county, and the whole
Oregon coast, are slowly passing on, Rick’s hope is that
his listeners will call in and share their own stories, or the stories
and
adventures of their parents and grandparents, thereby keeping our
history
alive. |
